Itinerary description
Qornet el Sawda, also known as the Black Peak, is the highest peak in Lebanon, with an elevation of 3,088 meters (10,131 feet). It is located in the Qornet el Sawda Nature Reserve, in the northern Bekaa Valley. The hike to the summit is challenging, but it is worth the effort for the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The trail begins at the Oyoun Orghosh gate, which is located on the road between Hadath el Jebbeh and Bsharri. The trail follows a dirt road used by off-road vehicles and ATVs to reach the summit. The first few kilometers of the trail are relatively easy, but it becomes steeper and more challenging as you get closer to the summit.
The last kilometer to the summit is the most challenging, but it is also the most rewarding. Once you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, including the Mediterranean Sea to the west and Syria to the east.
Tips for hiking Qornet el Sawda:
Start early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day.
Bring plenty of water and snacks.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots.
Be prepared for high winds and cold temperatures, even in the summer.
