Itinerary description
The trail starts from the viewpoints of Köprülü Canyon. Right from the start we can enjoy the natural beauty of this area. There are viewpoints over the canyon and there are stairways to walk down to the level of the river (included in this hike).
We start our walk following the asphalt road for some time. Every now and than we leave the main road and we walk closer to the canyon to have a better view.
On the first half kilometre we walk on the route where all sightseeing vans pass. They have to drive over the beautiful Historical Oluk Köprü bridge. Since this is a very narrow passage allowing one van at a time this is very funny to observe. The people on the vans have just a few minutes here and there to take a quick look and make their selfies. And they pay handsome money for the right to do so. A lot better to take this hike and enjoy this pristine part of nature in slow tourism mode!!!
After 1,5 kilometres we pass a bridge and we continue on a very quiet road now. A little bit further we turn left on a dirt road. From here on we follow the signals in white/red or the red ones that to me looked like bats (see information at the waypoint). The dirt roads brings us back in the canyon and we follow the river for a while. Every now and than we have nice views over the canyon. At about 3,5 km from the start the dirt road becomes more like a forest path. At this point I have made a small deviation to the river. Notice that we now get in a section that sometimes passes at the level of the river. At times of rain (or shortly after) the level of the water might rise very fast. So check the weather forecast before starting out. At some very short stretches to path is damaged by the water of the river. But the going is not difficult. There are beautiful trees along the river. After a while we go a little further away from the river and we come to Teviks house. It seems that there is a possibility to rent cabins and to get some food here. But it seemed that this service is only available in some seasons.
We pass Teviks house on the left side following the white/red indications and we reach the ruins of an old church. After the ruins we keep right and continue walking on a dirt road. We now pass a section with forest and small canyons. These are made by what seem to be small creeks. Very impressive. It is possible to walk down in these canyons and explore them in detail. Not much after we reach the asphalt road. We pass a forest of giant pine trees.
We continue over the asphalt road and come back to the part were we already passed in the beginning. From here we return easily to our cars.
After the hike we went to have dinner at Köprülü Nature Park. We had delicious trout there, prepared in a special way (grape leaf wrapping). The place is just 1,5 km from the bridge over the Köprülü canyon. You might want to try this out.
