An interesting route to know some episodes of the recent history of the European continent at the time that it crosses magnificent natural places such as the Soca river or the Kozjak waterfall.
It is advisable to start the day at the Kobarid Museum to get an idea of what happened in these places during the First World War.
In front of the museum there is a tourist office where you can get a map with explanations and directions to make the route.
It is necessary to leave the village and head towards the church of Sant Antoni in the XVII century, climbing the hill by a path of the Cross. Once above we have views over the town and we can visit the monument that Mussolini built and which constitutes a mass grave for more than 7,000 known and unknown soldiers who lost their lives on the front.
From here a path crosses the forest and we discover remains of hiding places following what was the Italian defense line.
We reach the hill called Tonocov Grad, where we can visit the remains of houses, a cistern, a chapel and a fortification. The remains range from the Roman period to the beginning of the Middle Ages (S. lV-Vl dc)
We continue moving through the forest and at our feet we discover the course of the Soca river with its turquoise waters. We approach ourselves by advancing the trenches, observation posts and steps dug into the rock to protect the soldiers during their journeys through the defense line.
A kind of tunnel with steps excavated in the rock, goes to the road that we have to cross, the trail continues descending to the Soca river that we will cross through a wooden bridge of 52 meters wide. The views over the river and its waters are phenomenal.
Arrived on the other side of the river, a well signposted path will bring us closer to the Kozjak waterfall. Along the way we have found many visitors who take this walk in order to have a bath. We need to walk a few hundred meters and we will find a bridge that hides a small waterfall and where we have been able to soak quite peacefully.
Later on, some wooden pathways make it easier for us to approach the waterfall that is completely hidden between the rocks. You have to climb along a very narrow path between the rocks and reach a well enclosed cavity at the bottom of the waterfall. The place is certainly spectacular, rightly so busy! In order to be able to bathe in the pool below the waterfall, you have to move through the riverbed, the water shoes are very helpful.
After marveling at the show, you have to undo the path until you return to the Soca River and drive along the left bank until you reach the Napoleon bridge. The present is a replica of what was built in the 19th century and that was destroyed in 1915.
From here, just over a kilometer separates us from our starting point to Kobarid.

Preciosa ruta a la que se añade el valor histórico al hermoso río. Imprescindible si estás por la zona. No presenta ninguna dificultad técnica. En el pueblo hay un parking que estaba lleno pero pudimos encontrar aparcamiento en los alrededores.
Si es una ruta bonita y con una historia sobrecogedora. Gracias por comentar
