Itinerary description

Knocksheegowna and Knockanaffrin, nr Clonmel, Ireland (Hewitt and Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
Parking for this route was from The Powers Pot campsite (marked on the OS map at start point). Cheap and cosy at 10€ a night in a motor home for showers and toilet. EHU available too. There in October and had the place to myself. The hike - walk south on the secondary road for 2kms. Turn left on a vehicle track for about another 2kms until you get to what I can only describe as a concrete oven as you turn north. I headed NE and uphill over tussock grass until I got to the ridge line and then turned SE for both summits. It was very overcast on the day but when it cleared the views were superb and atmospheric. I picked my way on rough trails uphill, downhill and often over rocks for about another 2kms. It was a great wide ridgeline hike with stunning wispy cloudy views. Eventually I got to Knochanaffrin, enjoyed some more atmospheric views and came back. This time I decided not to re ascend Knocksheegowna and cut off downhill across country heading NW this saving me some time. After getting back to the ‘oven’ I simply followed the track and road back to the campsite.
All in all a 15.5km hike with 607m of ascent done in 4hrs. Superb day!
