Itinerary description

We parked at the Lisleibane - Carrauntoohil Trail Head & Car Parking, however the same hike could be done from Cronin's Yard. After following the main trail for the first km or so, we veered right off the beaten track, following our gut feeling... up and onwards, aiming at the first peak of Knockbrinnea. The terrain is rather steep at times and has a good bit of low growth on it. Doable but you have to lift your feed a little higher then you might be used to, making progress a little slower then you might have initially planned. This section could become a good bit more tricky when wet though.

Once up Knockbrinnea, a trail popped up ahead of us, leading us nicely to the bones - the ridge between Knockbrinnea and Carrauntoohil. Following the path and staying on top of the ridge made for an easy enough walk. We did a bit of scrambling on this section, however most could be avoided if you don't feel like..

Once over the ridge, there was only one goal left to aim for. Carrauntoohil. Little paths seemed to come and go, but it's clear, you want to go up!

The way down, we followed the known path along the heavenly gates. It's a nice walk/scramble down, but also here, better to avoid this section when it's all too wet, stones would get rather slippery.

Note, we did some Geocaching along the way, hence the reason why the route might sometimes go slightly 'off'.
