Khapdar - Sahliyan - Jawahar Garh Fort Ruins

We were given a warning that the track might be road mostly. It was like doing the trail 5 and in between you take steep short cuts. But since it was a brand new territory and next to the River, so we were all in.
Track was to be started near Khapdar bridge on River Jhelum. For that we took an off route from Murree-Kohala road near the village Phagwari. From Phagwari we descended to Khadpur Suspension Bridge. We took some photos and started the trek after parking the vehicle at a nearby residence where we were served tea and snacks.
Start was on the road going uphill and it was tough, after passing some houses, we started taking the short cuts which made it steeper. Atmosphere was hazy so view was not clear and more like a painting.
We passed through many settlements and forests. We were in the Dhirkot tehsil of Bagh district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. I had been to Dhirkot’s Diyar Resorts which was on the other side of the mountain. Neela Butt, a place where the “Independence Revolution” started, was also visible. That was the revolution from the independence from Dogra Raj.
After several stays, we finally reached the village “Sahlian” which was our destination. Our host took us to house of his colleague where we were served “Hi-Tea” with some very delicious steamed chicken. We were given a detailed tour of the house which was quite unique. There was an old door which had carvings on it. House was fully modern with tiled washroom and paintings on the wall. However, what caught our eye was the tiny room in the backyard, it was made of the mud. It looked too cute and we were told that a buffalo occupied it. Yet it looked cleaner than any ISB market.
There are some ruins of an old fort pertaining to the Dogra dynasty. Fort has been destroyed, only some foundation walls remain. A middle school was built next to it. We went to see it, it was built on a very crucial place where the river, and the Mushkpuri peak was visible. Mushkpuri was on fire. By the time we returned there are fires at several places. Inface we drove by one very closely.
We were served ginger-cardamom tea with homemade snacks again. As I do not take tea, I had as much tea that day as I might have taken in past 6 months. People excitedly answered all our questions and If you know me, I ask a lot.
As the fire spread on the other mountains we decided to return to Islamabad.
We decided to return sometime and do more hikes in the area.

ہمیں وارننگ دی گئی تھی کہ ٹریک زیادہ تر سڑک ہو سکتا ہے۔ یہ ٹریل 5 کرنے کے مترادف تھا اور اس کے درمیان آپ تیز شارٹ کٹس لیتے ہیں۔ لیکن چونکہ یہ بالکل نیا علاقہ تھا اور دریا کے قریب تھا، اس لیے ہم سب نے ہاں کر دی۔
دریائے جہلم پر کھپدر پل کے قریب ٹریک شروع کیا جانا تھا۔ اس کے لیے ہم نے پھگواڑی گاؤں کے قریب مری کوہالہ روڈ سے آف روٹ لیا۔ پھگواڑی سے ہم کھپدرسسپنشن پل پر اترے۔ ہم نے کچھ تصاویر لیں اور ایک قریبی رہائش گاہ پر گاڑی پارک کرنے کے بعد ٹریک شروع کیا جہاں ہمیں چائے اور بسکٹ پیش کیے گئے ۔
سٹارٹ اوپر کی طرف جانے والی سڑک پر تھا اور یہ مشکل تھا، کچھ گھروں سے گزرنے کے بعد ہم نے شارٹ کٹ لینا شروع کیا جس کی وجہ سے یہ تیز تر ہو گیا۔ ماحول دھندلا تھا اس لیے منظر صاف نہیں تھا اور پینٹنگ جیسا تھا۔
ہم بہت سی بستیوں اور جنگلوں سے گزرے۔ ہم آزاد جموں و کشمیر کے ضلع باغ کی تحصیل دھیرکوٹ میں تھے۔ میں دھیرکوٹ کے دیار ریزورٹس میں گیا ہوا تھا جو پہاڑ کی دوسری طرف تھا۔ نیلا بٹ، وہ جگہ جہاں سے ’’انقلابِ آزادی‘‘ شروع ہوا تھا، وہ بھی قابل دید تھا۔ یہ ڈوگرہ راج سے آزادی کا انقلاب تھا۔

کئی قیام کے بعد بالآخر ہم گاؤں "سہلیان" پہنچے جو ہماری منزل تھی۔ ہمارے میزبان ہمیں اپنے ساتھی کے گھر لے گئے جہاں ہمیں کچھ بہت ہی مزیدار ابلی ہوئی چکن کے ساتھ "Hi-Tea" پیش کی گئی۔ ہمیں گھر کا تفصیلی دورہ کروایا گیا جو کہ کافی منفرد تھا۔ ایک پرانا دروازہ تھا جس پر نقش و نگار تھے۔ ٹائل شدہ واش روم اور دیوار پر پینٹنگز کے ساتھ مکان مکمل طور پر جدید تھا۔ تاہم، جس چیز نے ہماری آنکھ پکڑی وہ گھر کے پچھواڑے کا چھوٹا سا کمرہ تھا، یہ مٹی کا بنا ہوا تھا۔ یہ بہت پیارا لگ رہا تھا اور ہمیں بتایا گیا کہ ایک بھینس اس میں رہایش پذیر ہے ۔ اس کے باوجود یہ کسی بھی ISB مارکیٹ سے صاف نظر آرہا تھا۔
ڈوگرہ خاندان سے متعلق ایک پرانے قلعے کے کچھ کھنڈرات ہیں۔ قلعہ تباہ ہو چکا ہے، صرف چند بنیادیں باقی ہیں۔ اس کے ساتھ ہی ایک مڈل سکول بنایا گیا تھا۔ ہم اسے دیکھنے گئے، یہ ایک انتہائی اہم جگہ پر بنایا گیا تھا جہاں سے دریا، اور مشکپوری چوٹی نظر آتی تھی۔ مشکپوری جنگل کو آگ لگ گئی تھی۔ جب ہم واپس آئے تو کئی جگہوں پر آگ لگی ہوئی تھی۔
ہمیں دوبارہ گھر کے بنے نمکین کے ساتھ ادرک الائچی والی چائے پیش کی گئی۔ میں چائے نہیں پیتا، میں نے اس دن اتنی چائے پی تھی جتنی میں نے پچھلے 6 مہینوں میں پی تھی۔ لوگوں نے پرجوش انداز میں ہمارے تمام سوالات کا جواب دیا اور اگر آپ مجھے جانتے ہیں تو میں بہت کچھ پوچھتا ہوں۔
جیسے جیسے آگ دوسرے پہاڑوں پر پھیل گئی ہم نے اسلام آباد واپس جانے کا فیصلہ کیا۔
ہم نے کچھ دیر واپس آنے اور علاقے میں مزید ہائیک کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔
