Itinerary description

I must stress that this is a hike for trained hikers only. It's intermediate only if you have a high level of fitness and are familiar with mountain hiking. The entire way to the top is pretty unforgiving: a constant steep trail to the top without any relief. Quite tiring on the legs. The first 10km but might take up to 3 hours.

The first part leads through the "Drunken Forest" with plenty of shade, but once you passed that part you'll be in the bright sun. That said, the trails are comfortable and easy to navigate on, on most of the track (on the way down there are some very overgrown stretches). Water is available in the lower elevations, as marked on the map. Some parts go through high vegetation, especially on the way down, so long pants are recommended (there are many ticks in Armenia as well as thorns and nettles). Hiking poles are also recommended. I didn't encounter sheep herds guarded by dogs, but it encompasses shepherd's terrain so this is a possibility. In case of an encounter: Don't run, raise your voice and slowly (backwards) remove yourself out of the terrain of these dogs.

You can walk the same way down as many recordings on Wikiloc did, but as there are plenty of trails I think it's more interesting to make a loop. Keep in mind that the last part of the way down passes through some thick overgrown forest, only in the last hour (alternatively you can connect to the main road and get a ride back to town).

I recommend trying to reach the top before midday before the clouds (and rain set in).
