Itinerary description
The Pipeline Trek, also known as the Khaira Gali to Dunga Gali Trek, offers a breathtaking journey through the scenic Galiyat region. This captivating trail takes you on a historical path once constructed by the British Army during the British Raj in India to supply water to Murree as the army was stationed there.
The trek commences near Khaira Gala which is a town 15 KM away from Murree). Convenient parking options are available near the mosque in Khaira Gali or the nearby hotels and it is safe to park your car. A concrete road from the mosque leads you toward the trailhead, spanning approximately 2 kilometers.
As you start walking, after 2 kilometers or so, you will reach a local chai hotel. Take a left turn followed by another left, and you'll find yourself at the starting point of the Pipeline Trek. From here, the trail meanders through the breathtaking landscape, showcasing lush greenery, pristine air, and a mesmerizing display of trees that adorn the valley.
For this trek, I finished at Ayubia. The pipeline trek stretches all the way to Dunga. From Ayubia to Donga, you will find the trek more maintained. You will also find several British Army insignia carved on the mountainside era representing the rich history of the area.
At Dunga Gali, don't forget to go to the Motu Tunnel. Built during the British Raj in India, the Motu Tunnel served as an important infrastructure project to facilitate transportation and connectivity in the region. It was a stone masonry tunnel, meticulously crafted to provide a passage through the mountains, allowing easier access to and from Nathiagali.
The tunnel served as a vital link for both pedestrians and vehicles, enabling the transportation of goods, supplies, and people between Nathiagali and its surrounding areas. It played a crucial role in connecting Nathiagali to neighboring towns, enhancing trade and communication in the region.
Overall its a straight trek and is not difficulty. We finished the hike at Ayubia and hitch hiked our way back to Khaira Gali. You can easily find public transport or book a cab.
