English version:
The Milford Sound must be one of the most beautiful places on this planet, but there are also very beautiful things to see nearby. One of them is the famous Routeburn Track, which is part of New Zealand's Great Walks. If the almost forty-kilometer-long track is too far, there is also an alternative with a climb to the Key Summit. The climb to this summit involves about five hundred meters of elevation gain, but they are evenly distributed and therefore easily manageable for less alpine hikers.

Fiordland National Park is the rainiest region in New Zealand, so the chance of clouds and rain is much greater than when you see a clear sky. So I'm not completely surprised when I see a densely packed cloud cover in the sky. On the other hand, it does create a dramatic and ominous effect in combination with the landscape, and it fits well. The ascent takes place in an enchanting rainforest where each tree, fern, or bush is greener than the other. Water seeps from the rocks and forms small cascades in the forest. Add a generous amount of moss, and you begin to understand why it looks so green here.

I am momentarily taken out of the dream-like scene when a small landslide has wiped away part of the forest. A sign warns that I should pass this stretch as quickly as possible, which I proceed to do. However, the magic of this track is quickly rediscovered when I see a charming waterfall on my right, where a picturesque bridge spans the underlying stream. The path continues to climb, and at a fork, you have a choice: either hike to the top at Key Summit or walk back down to Lake Howden. Unfortunately, I didn't have time for both, so it was Key Summit.

The second part of the climb has more rocks and stones on the trail, but it remains relatively accessible. The climb can be a bit steeper at times, but you don't need to be a mountain climber to overcome this elevation. After a four hundred meters ascent, the alpine nature walk awaits, which is the highlight of this hike. In a mossy area, a boardwalk has been laid out where you walk through this vegetation and are treated to some beautiful views. With low-hanging clouds, the visibility is somewhat obstructed, but on the other hand, it adds to the charm of this hike.

At the top, there is also a lookout that overlooks Lake Marian, but with all the clouds, it's like searching for a needle in a haystack. No Lake Marian for me, but the beautiful mountain lakes hidden in the moss are possibly even more beautiful. This is a vulnerable area, so be careful where you step! The descent is very pleasant, and I get a second chance to enjoy the forest. If you have more than half an hour left, it's definitely worth taking the detour to Lake Howden, which is part of the Routeburn Track. Unfortunately, that's not an option for me, but in terms of natural beauty, this hike scores very well even without this mountain lake.

In about two hours, I'm back at the parking lot where I started the hike, and I have completed my last nature hike in New Zealand. This is a farewell in beauty!

I am momentarily taken out of the dream image when a small landslide has wiped out part of the forest. A sign warns that I should pass this strip as quickly as possible, which I then do. However, the magic of this track is quickly regained when I see a charming waterfall on my right where a picturesque bridge spans the underlying stream. The path continues up and at a fork you are given a choice: either walk to the top at Key Summit or walk back down to Lake Howden. Unfortunately I didn't have time for both so it was Key Summit.

The second part of the climb has a few more rocks and stones on the walking path, but it remains relatively passable. The climb can sometimes be a bit steeper, but you certainly don't have to be a mountain hiker to overcome this height. After a four hundred meter ascent, the alpine nature walk awaits, which is surely the pinnacle of this walk. A wooden path has been constructed in a mossy area where you walk through this vegetation and are also treated to some beautiful views. With low clouds that view is somewhat obscured, but on the other hand it is part of the charm of this walk.

At the top there is also a lookout overlooking Lake Marian, but with all the clouds this is like finding a needle in a haystack. So no Lake Marian for me, but the beautiful mountain lakes hidden in the moss are even more beautiful. This is a vulnerable area, so be careful where you put your feet! The descent is very smooth and I get a second chance to enjoy the forest. If you still have more than half an hour, it is definitely worth taking the turnoff to Lake Howden, which is part of the Routeburn Track. That's not an option for me, but in terms of natural beauty, this walk without this mountain lake also scores very well.

In about two hours I am back at the parking lot where I started the walk and I have completed my last nature walk in New Zealand. This is called a beautiful farewell!
