Itinerary description

This should be a textbook example of a mountain trail. It runs under the trees, up a beautiful creek. It has waterfalls, wooden bridge and river wading. It leads you to a spectacular alpine valley, under 10000 feet peaks, and a pristine lake. What is missing?

The trail is not difficult except for the last half mile, just below the lake, where it becomes very rugged and eventually disappears. It takes a short scramble to the top. The valley, dominated by the Devil's Bedstead, is well worth the hike even if you don't get to the lake.

Be ready for two creek crossings with ankle-high water.

The road to Wildhorse campground was in good shape, easily passable for a passenger car. But the roads in this area are often damaged, so a high clearance vehicle is advisable
