Eighth stage of the Kerry Way – Ireland crossing
Long day in kilometers but without complications. Beautiful route that passes through lush forests, along the edge of the Kenmare "river" and where we will enjoy the beautiful views of the Beara peninsula from the top.
The most unfavorable point: the almost 2 km by road, heavy and dangerous.
We will leave behind the colorful village of Sneem to start walking through a shady parknashillia forest: rhododendrons, ferns, holly and moss. Without much difference in elevation and with the weather on our side, we can move forward with joy
Almost without realizing it we arrive at Tahila Hora and ¾ later. We continue through barren meadows until we reach the Blackwater bridge on the road.
Now comes a very nice piece bordering Kenmare bay/river . It is a rugged piece of coast, with beautiful rock formations. We take the opportunity to have a bite with the background noise of the waves.
Pay attention when you reach the N70 road, through Templenoe . It is a national road with heavy traffic and some sections with almost no pavement to protect yourself. Luckily they are only 1.7 Km.
When we leave it, they begin to ascend gradually through barren meadows. It is equipped with several sections of wooden planks. Luckily it hasn't rained in the last two days and we can travel without many complications. If it has rained, this area must be very painful, because the ground is like a sponge. From the Gortamullin lookout we can savor the well-deserved 360 panoramic view of Kenmare Bay.
Kenmare is a bustling town, compared to days gone by. It has a couple of pretty lively streets, full of pubs with live music. Apart from that, it is worth visiting the Stone Circle, ten minutes from the center.
We'll be staying at a basic but well-priced hostel that also has a washer and dryer, 12A Main Street.
