Third stage of the Kerry Way crossing
Today's day will be the easiest of the Kerry Way: with comfortable climbs, no rain and mostly on local roads, the highlight of the day being the views of Dingle Bay from the Windy Gap
For this reason we decided to extend the route a little more, and reach Mountain Stage, a few km further from Glenbeigh. In this way, it would allow us to face the following day in better conditions, which was expected to be more difficult.
This time they were on notice and knew that part of the route was flooded. The route will therefore be different from the initially planned route.
We will start by skirting Lough Acoose along the side of the road. Although it was not very busy, as always you have to pay attention and we will always walk on the right side. As it is early, we will enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains reflected on the pristine lake.
The path will run along local roads between neret (rhododendron), hazel, birch, grevol and conifer forests.
An hour and a half later, we arrive at the Black Stone Bridge , over the Caragh River. Here you can make a short stop to have a bite, as the place has a special magic.
We will leave the road and start climbing through barren meadows in the direction of the Windy Gap : this place lives up to its name and when we reach the pass we will be greeted with a strong wind but also with magnificent views of Dingle Bay and Glenbeigh.
Descend gently until I reach the village of Glenbeigh . Here we will take the opportunity to buy hot food at the supermarket/gas station
We will leave Glenbeigh, we will walk through a beech forest, with holly and neret. Road again until we reach our destination Mountain Stage
We will stay at Mountain Valley B&B. Very good to eat, with large and comfortable rooms.
