Although this 1st day does not belong to the “Kerry Way” route, I found it interesting to do it since on this route the 1st and last day coincide almost 80%, the route also arrived at the place to start on the 2nd day.
The Killarney exit is nice, even if it's on the country road, you can go along a forest path that goes along the road. After a detour will come, this is the most delicate part about 7 km by narrow road but with little traffic, to reach the beginning of the "gap of dunloe".
We will go up the "gap of dunloe" is a narrow mountain pass, during the tour I will meander the different lakes and the Loe river. When I get to the hill the clouds get in and I start the descent quickly, thank goodness that there are only 2.5 km to get to the Black Valley hostel.
