In the 3rd stage of the Kepler Track, the descent from the Iris Burn Hut to the Moturau Hut, on Lake Manapouri, begins.
They are more than 18 km, but mostly downhill through forests full of very green moss and some fern fields that are quite impressive.
If you want to stop for lunch, it is better to do so at the intermediate shelter (Rocky Point Shelter), or before reaching the lake beach, since there are many sand flies on the beach.
