Ascension from Te Anau Parking to Luxmore Hut.
The path does not get lost, it begins on the shores of the lake, and borders it on the north side for a quarter of the way.
From there the ascent begins through a beautiful forest with ferns everywhere.
The last hour runs along the ridge of the mountain, with low vegetation, but impressive views of Lake Te Anau, the town of Te Anau itself, and the snow-capped fjords in front.
At Luxmore Hut, if you are lucky, you can see the famous Kea parrot, endemic to these mountains.
