Itinerary description

Kenatssar mountain ( Կենացսար լեռ ) with the height of 2138 m is the highest peak of the Kenats mountains ( Կենաց լեռներ ).
The Kenats mountains is 42 km-long branch of the Miapor mountains which starts from Miapor summit and extends to the North-East of the land.

◤ What you should know about this trail ?◥

▶ The mountain is located in Tavush region and if you plan to hike it you either choose a roadway that passes through Tavush or the one that is closer to Yerevan and passes through Gegharkunik region. So it depends where your starting point is. If you are in Tavush already, better choose the 1st option.
▻First road passes through Ijevan town, then through Shamshadin villages (Agehovit, Navur, Itsaqar, etc.) and longer one if you plan the hike from Yerevan.
▻ Second road passes through Chambarak town, then turn to the right from Ttujur village.
P.S. There is another one that goes through Ijevan and Gandzakar village, but it is under construction now (in 2024).

▶ The closest villages to Kenatssar are Itsakar ( Իծաքար ) and Navur ( Նավուր ). So the mountain area is almost uninhabited and there are some spots when mobile service does not work and you might be out of coverage.

▶ There are no blazed trails or even gravel roads in Kenatssar. Some sides of the peak are quite rocky, so keep in mind while choosing the way to it.

▶ In our trail we have 2 directions: heading to the summit trail is shorter but steeper than the descent trail. We wanted to explore the mountain from different sides. If you are not into steep mountain hikes, it's better to pick the descent trail for both ways. That one goes to the summit very smoothly and gradually.

▶ There is a cross on Kenatssar summit. Kenatssar overlooks the Miapor mountain range, lush and virgin forests of Tavush.

▶ Down on the beginning of the descent way we spotted mountain huts. I assume there might be shepherds with their kettle and dogs in season (generally from mid-April till October). So to be on the safe side it's better to avoid that area (hike down about 30 m to the left).
That area is mentioned in the waypoints.

▶ We hiked the mountain in mid March, and we had snow only at the summit. More detailed about the right season for Kenatssar here:↴

SEASON:
▶ Recommended:
It's better to hike Kenatssar from April till December.
BEST SEASON:
1)From May till mid-July, when the slopes of the mountain are green and full of flowers and comfy temperature.
2)From mid-September till late November we have golden landscapes and good temperature here.
▶ Not Recommended:
From mid-July till mid-September it's very hot here, and for all the mountains in this area lower than 2500 m.
From December till April the mountain is generally full of snow, so if you are not into snow hikes, better avoid this period. There might be no snow in early December or after mid-March, but it depends on the season.
