Itinerary description
Kelingking Beach, on Nusa Penida island, has been rated as one of the best beaches, both in Asia and globally.
Access to the sandy cove is possible through cement steps at the early stages, transiting over to a marked path on the rocky cliff.
There are protective wooden and bamboo barriers almost throughout, which are strong enough to offer some support during descent and ascent, while using your hands to climb down or up. In a few spots there are also thick ropes for assistance. Whereas, at the lowest end of the hike to the beach, a wooden ladder has been placed for hikers to reach the soft, fluffy sand shore.
I visited it during the dry season and I descended and ascended on flip flops. Yet that being said, apply extra caution when it is rainy or the trail is crowded.
Both the cliff formation and the lush trees offer shade, which may shift through the day, depending on the position of the sun.
A makeshift kiosk sells coconuts and drinks.
The beach is also accessible by boat from Nusa Penida’s western port.
