Itinerary description
This route takes you to the location of the Jurassic Park gates, and some pretty falls a little farther up. Only two concrete poles and spectacular scenery remain, but it is worth the effort.
Road 580 becomes a gravel road that requires a high clearance vehicle. Depending on the caliber of the rig and the tolerance for damage you can go further up the road. There are three serious creek crossings. This track starts at the third one, which was difficult by car but easy on foot. If you can drive across the road is not worse up to one quarter mile from the gates' location. Then it degrades quickly, but people were driving up to the irrigation ditch.
Around 1.5 miles from the crossing there are the two poles marking the location of the gates. Just beyond there are beautiful views of Wai'ale'ale, weather permitting.
Half a mile further up the road gets close to an irrigation ditch -there is a clearing with parking space. Along this ditch runs a short trail that leads to some low unnamed falls with a very neat pool, great spot for cooling down.
Now, the trick is taking the shortcut. Because the ditch goes through a tunnel 4 feet in diameter and 800 feet long, in a area prone to flash floods. So, logically, the locals have decided it is a good idea to take a boogie board and a headlamp and just float through the tunnel to the falls. I have not tried, but it looks very cool.
