Itinerary description
We start from the old path "Alexenas monopati" that connects the two plateaus. Soon the path starts downhills all the way to the Lassithi plateau. The view as you move down is spectacular as you can see most of the plateau as well as the two reservoirs that keep the water of the gorge for farming. Before you reach the plateau you pass from the little church of Agia Pelagia. It worths a look to the bomb shell that is used as Bell, a thing that you often see it in small churches in the plateau, relics from the II WW. You then follow the road that goes all the way next to the reservoirs where you can watch a lot of wild birds. Soon you enter the gorge following a path on side. After a while you have to self decide a path through the gorge that soon it gets full of boulders. You pass a fallen sign that indicates your way out after you reach Mavrokolymbos. After half an hours walk you will arrive on a small lake where the passage is closed by a huge perfectly round boulder. You May take a swimm and start your return. The path for your way back starts from the sign we 've seen before and is a really nice easy to follow with beautiful view of the gorge as you go up. That will lead you to a forest of oaks "asfentamos'" and going upphills you will meet again Alexenas path wich in its turn brings you back to the start point.
