Itinerary description
Kasbah du Toubkal - Mountain lodge and back
Kasbah du Toubkal arranges an excellent overnight hike to their "Mountain Lodge" and back. The mountain lodge is a 4 room small hotel in a remote village and is of as good a quality as the hotel itself. The trek is the easiest you can imagine given the stats above. You are guided by a full time guide, mule, mule driver and at mid-points a chef who prepares a warm lunch for your group. You have very little to carry and you can just enjoy the scenery and the hike.
The trails are good to excellent and a single pole and mountain running shoes were a good match for the trek. A second pole would have been excessive and we felt no need for hiking boots.
The hike was more interesting than I had expected. You walk though several valleys and small villages and each is somewhat different from the others.
The weather was perfect for the hike in November. I would expect this to be unbearably hot for some in the summer, but in the fall this was the perfect mix of sunshine, warmth and scenery.
ps. Do remember to bring your own wine. A good Amarone was a perfect drink at night with the excellent tagines at the Mountain Lodge, but both the hotel and the lodge are strictly BYOB.
