Itinerary description

Old GPS data from Oct 25, 2006, no time marks. Parked in Karlık and walked up on the tractor path to the plateau above the village (Avla Dağ), which leads along the rock-carved remains of the byzantine village. Being a tractor track, it is relatively steep but easy to walk. The plateau is fairly even until one reaches the edge of the Kurtdere. The head of the valley (or rather, the heads, as the valley eventually splits into minor side valleys) consists of a couples of rocky terraces. The roman necropolis is carved in the cliff of the higher one, while the Akılı vadisi church is in the cliff of the second one (below the waypoint marked as Panorama 2).
We were looking for a way to get down there, when we were surprised by the sudden but not fully unannounced (I thought someone was chopping wood in the valley below us) arrival of two pretty large wild boars. Despite the surprise, I still managed to get a pic of the second one. Not knowing whether those were the only guests around, we did not dare to venture down the gorge they had just finished climbing, and took a further loop to the East, which however did not provide us with any visual evidence of the church below within a reasonable time (we still wanted to visit other sites in the area).
