Itinerary description
A classic hike, on a well used and marked path.
Going up, my device was losing GPS signal on two occasions, that's why there are two straight lines on the track. Total length is probably about 10-10.5km, while total elevation gain is about 820m (780m net + plus 40m due to some elevation loss). Contrary to what wikiloc calls it, the hike is not a loop but a simple out and back.
The hike is hence technically easy, but physically can be rated as moderate.
There are three crossroads on the path, out of which two are well signaled. The one is Volušnica/Popadija - Karaula (near the middle), and the other is Trojan - Karaula (near the top). The third crossroads, and possibly most confusing is in the first part, it's where another path continues down back to Škala, which is a bit further from our starting point (mountain hut "Karanfil"). It could be confusing especially on descent, so just pay a bit more attention.
The views at the top are spectacular. You see Volušnica/Popadija, the whole ridge of Trojan as well as Fortit, Karanfili and Očnjak from very close. You also see very well Shnikut (Madhe) and the majority of peaks from its group, and you also see the two Kolatas and Rosit peeking over the Karanfili-Brada ridge.
