Itinerary description
Part of Lycian Way. Very difficult hike that leads away from the villages and deep into nature. Starting from Karaoz, the hike starts gentle over a flat road along the coast with some opportunities to swim in beautiful bays. However, leading up to the Gelidonya Lighthouse, the road turns into a small, rocky and narrow hiking trail that steeply goes upwards. From this point onward, there are also no water facilities anymore until Adrasan (approx. 15 km away) so it is important to bring enough water for the next 4-5 hours or so. Halfway on the first climb, you reach Gelidonya Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. It is after this point, however, that the trail really leads into nature without any trace of civilization for several hours of hiking. There are occasional vistas of the sea and rocky beaches, but these can’t be reached by foot as the majority of the hike is in the woods on the mountain slopes. After having reached the first summit and going down on a rather steep and difficult descend, there is a long and rather boring middle section with some constant up and down. At this point, you find yourself midway between Karaoz and Adrasan. When getting closer to Adrasan, there is a second summit that has to be conquered. This one is somewhat easier than the first summit, but the lack of water and tiredness made this the more difficult one for us. Having reached the top, the way down is relatively easy with the first views of Adrasan appearing. After having gone all the way down again, there finally is another opportunity to get some water. At this point, the woods have made way for a gravel road again and Adrasan is only another 2 km away.
