Itinerary description
Awesome hike, but you need to be fit going up and sure-footed on the way down. This is a steep route in both directions. The effort is rewarded with a superb variety of forest and, weather permitting, awesome views in all directions from the top.
Note that there are 8 river crossings (the same river) at the beginning (if taking the clockwise direction), 4 of which are repeated at the end. Unless the river is in flood, these crossings are not dangerous, but you WILL get your feet thoroughly wet, so you need to be prepared to walk in sodden boots for the rest of the day. You get used to it very quickly.
Limited car parking at the end of Ngatiawa Road.
