Initial stage of the Gokyo Ri trek. This trek shares the initial stages with the more famous and popular Everest base camp.
To get there from Kathmandu there are two ways to get there:
- By plane, flying from Kathmandu or Ramechap: in high season there are hardly any flights from Kathmandu so you have to travel to Ramechap. By minivan the price is about €10 or 1,500 rupees per person and it takes about 5 hours. The price of the plane, one way, is €150. The flight is 20-30min.
- By jeep: the tour is divided into two days.
Day 1: at the hostel we manage the pick-up of the jeep, it will pick us up at 4 am. The journey takes about 10-13 hours along roads and lanes of all types. He will leave us in Salleri around 5 in the afternoon. In this town we look for accommodation to stay.
Price: 3000 rupees. I would recommend only paying at the hotel for this first part of the journey and not the total amount that follows.
Day 2: In the same town we looked the previous afternoon for the jeep that will take us to Thamdada, the last town the road reaches. This journey will be about 7-8 hours, even though they told us 5-5. It runs through all lanes and moves very slowly.
Once the jeep arrives in Thamdada, you have to do the 1-hour trek that you see here. Given the time we arrived, it was nighttime and we were able to find accommodation in the first lodge in the town.
