Description: It takes about 40 mins to reach the village from Panvel ST stand. A paved road extends from the village for a km and then a mud trail climbs uphill, steeply at times, to reach the plateau called Prabalmachi. Head towards Kalavantin Durg after confirming the way from villagers and an hour long climb through forest takes you to the col (depression between two mountains) between Kalavantin Durg and Prabalgad. An exposed climb of 15 mins by steps carved in stone is all that lies between the col and the summit.
Exercise caution while descending.
Food and Water: Available at Thakurwadi and Prabalmachi on weekends.
Stay: Available on Prabalmachi. Nilesh Bhutambare provides lodging and guide services for treks to Prabalgad.
Info in brief:
Kalavantin Durg is one of the favourite haunts of trekkers around Mumbai due to its thrilling climb. The 1708 ft high watch tower lies on the same plateau as Prabalgad and provides a Panoramic view of the surrounding range. One can view Chanderi, Nakhind, Mhasmal, Irshalgad & Matheran on a clear day. It can also be done along with Prabalgad as part of a two-day trek.
