Most popular trail, very crowd at summer time. Beautiful waterfall , river flowing all year.
Take left paved concrete covered road to uphill at left side of the restaurant.
Easy path . no difficulties, suitable for children as well. Shady, very pleasant walk if you not count tons of people.. :( even in August.
Caledonia was the Latin name given to Scotland by the Romans long before it was made the name of this trail that winds through a verdant forest, with a clear, cool river that makes its way down from the majestic falls.
The water falls into a small pool from a twelve-meter height, and the trail can be followed from a parking area near the ‘Psilo Dendro’ trout farm in Platres.
The trail leading to the waterfall isn’t considered strenuous, but hikers should know that it is an uphill walk right up until you reach the Caledonia Falls. There are a number of rest points along the trail where visitors can stop and take in the calming sounds of the river flowing through the lush forest.
Unlike many rivers in Cyprus whose flows depend on the winter rains, this river (as well as its waterfall) can also be enjoyed during the heat of the summer months.
Various lush plants and wildlife surround the trail which is also referred to as the ‘Trail of Nightingales’, including smooth-barked strawberry trees, the rock rose, and black poplars. A variety of birds also appear along the trail, including nightingales and the migratory barn swallow which comes to the island in spring.

The trail is acclivity linear length of three kilometers. It starts north of "Psilodentro" and leads to the homonyms waterfall within a half hour. If you want you can start from the downhill side of the Troodos Square, both paths follow along with the "Cold River" that permanently is running water and leads to the "tall tree" in Pano Platres. Cataract Kalidonia is the second largest in height to 12 meters and best known of Cyprus.
Waterfall of Caledonia named after Scots when they visited the area and were charmed by its beauty, with the waterfall running nonstop between a beautiful dense forest. It reminded their homeland and they call it Caledonia, as the Scotland was called in ancient times.
You will take countless photos of the beautiful scenery at every step! It will however find the path a bit hard but believe me is worth it though. You can rest at various viewpoints which have been selected by the Department of Forestry, which is offered in many cases panoramic views mainly in a cold river and Platres community.
The trail has many natural stones. The vegetation around the waterfall consists mainly of pine and several other tall trees

I would rate this trail a 7 out of 10.
The trail is genuinely beautiful and suitable for those new to hiking. However, due to its popularity with tourists and locals alike, it was quite crowded when I visited at the end of October.
Nice pleasant walk, clean nature !!
