Itinerary description
Technical difficulty: 1.5/5
Note #1: The trail is about 40% in the shade, 60% in the sun. The trail is very accessible all the way, no special equipment is needed. There aren't any springs or potable water, so bring plenty of hydration with you.
Note #2: The parking at Mihani hamlet is really, really small. At best, only a few cars can fit here. The good news is that not many hikers choose this as a starting point, so if you arrive earlier you should be alright.
Note #3: From intersection #7 to the Hunting Blind #2 the trail is unmarked, save for the occasional letter 'K'. It's easy to navigate, though. These 'K' are known as "putevi kontrabanda" aka "contraband trails". In the 1930s, villages in northeastern Istria made a living running contraband over Učka mountain from a duty-free zone on the coast.

This hiking trail will take you through several peaks in the middle-region of Učka. The crown jewel of the hike is the mountain shelter & bird observatory "Kremenjak" (opened in 06/2023), which is an architectural work of art and a true attraction for hikers of all ages. See specific waypoint descriptions for more information.
From Mihani hamlet, start following the trail towards the Kremenjak peak. The path is very-well marked, even if a bit overgrown in places. From Kremenjak, you will backtrack a bit, and then follow the path towards Brgud peak. Halfway to Brgud, and about 1 km from Kremenjak peak, there's the mountain shelter of the same name. It doubles as a bird observatory, since a griffon vulture reservation is also located in the area.
Once you're done enjoying the shelter, you will soon reach Brgud, which is marked by a statue of the Virgin Mary atop a large rock.
Lastly, the Perun peak is rich with mythology, named after the highest Slavic god of the pantheon and the god of sky, thunder, lightning, storms, rain, law, war, fertility and oak trees. The peak itself doesn't really offer any remarkable views, though.
From Perun, it's a straightforward descent back to Mihani.
Waypoints
Car parking / Mihani
Mihani is the last hamlet after Mošćenice. While you can begin your hike earlier, this is as far as you can go by car. Leave it on the small clearing just before the hamlet.
Intersection #1 / to Kremenjak
At Mihani, follow the marked trail to Kremenjak.
Intersection #2 / to Kremenjak
Now follow the path to Kremenjak. On your return, you will get back to this intersection from the direction of M. Učka/Vojak.
Intersection #5 / to Kremenjak
Now you will continue towards Kremenjak, but on your way back from said peak you will backtrack to this intersection and continue towards Brgud.
Kremenjak (826 m)
Kremenjak is not a prominent peak, but due to the nature of the terrain it offers a nice view of both the seaside (Kvarner Bay) and the Istria region on the other side of Učka. If you look towards the north you can see both Brgud and Perun, as well as Vojak - Učka's summit.
'Kremenjak' wilderness hut and bird observatory
"Kremenjak" was opened in 06/2023. It's the work of architect Ivan Juretić and other collaborators. It's resembles a hatched egg, built in the vicinity of a griffon vulture reservation and feeding grounds. It can shelter up to 5-6 people, is equipped with electricity (lights and usb-charging station), powered by a solar panel installed nearby. More info at: https://www.pp-ucka.hr/skloniste-promatracnica-kremenjak/
Brgud (907 m)
This small plateau is the Brgud peak. It's recognizable due to the sculpture of the Virgin Mary.
Hunting lodge 'Perun'
The hunting lodge is NOT a mountain hut, and it's not open to the public.
Intersection #7 / turn left
From the main road, turn left and through the woods. The trail is not marked, but it's very clear and easy to follow.
Intersection #10 / go right
Perun - sculpture
Wooden sculpture of Perun, the highest god of the Slavic pantheon and the god of sky, thunder, lightning, storms, rain, law, war, fertility and oak trees.
Perun (808 m)
