Itinerary description

A nice easy walk over undulating terrain following an established trail with great views around the Jebel Yibir area. A 4wd is needed to ascend the Jebel Yiber mountain track, which is ~10km of steep, twisting and rutted track. Drive as far as you can, until you reach the restricted access (military area)sign. Park (considerately!)and start the hike on the west side of the track. Unfortunately quite a lot of litter marks the start but a trail is quickly identifiable going down the slope in a northerly direction. The trail works itself around JY and soon heads east. The early part of the hike runs parallel with and provides great views over the wadi below. After about 1-2km the trail reaches a saddle and continues east around JY (look up to your right to see the military outpost). From here, just keeping heading east. It is a simple and enjoyable walk for another couple of kilometres until the trail swings round to the south and provides great views over a series of hill farms. There is very little shade on this trail, so sun protection and water needed.

Hi, where do you access the starting point from?

Hi, two ways to start the hike. The easiest way is to drive up the mountain road as far as you can, which is a point where a sign indicates no further access is permitted. Park your vehicle to one side. Go to the left of the concrete barriers on the west side (don't be put off by any rubbish) and start making your way down, a track soon becomes apparent. Then, just keep following the trail!

To get to the start of the mountain road head towards Dibba, i usually take J119 from Emirates (311) and head east. About 10km after the main roundabout you will approach the turn off for Al Tawaian (u - turn). Keep heading towards Al Tawaian, over some small roundabouts & speed bumps. Near the end of yhe village uou will pass a mosque on your left. About 25m on turn left then right and straight on past the school. The tarmac ends but continue down a small gravel slope. Turn left onto the road, follow this for 6-800m and take the track on the right signposted jebel yabir (or similar). Follow this for about 10km, turn left and continue to the start of the mountain road. Good luck!

Thanks but my questions is regarding the mountain road. Do you access this road from the south (E87) or from the west (E18)?

    3rd October 2016 - UPDATE
I intended to do Cave-tastic yesterday but was met by two members of the UAE army at the end of the black top approach road at the base of Jebel Yibir. After requesting our IDs and a search of our vehicles they advised that we could not hike in that direction (Cave-tastic) or ascend the mountain road to the top of Jebel Yibir for the farm hikes. Our only allowable option was to head towards 'Knee-popper' and do some hiking there.
This did not appear to be a permanent checkpoint but if heading in this direction it may be advisable to have a back up plan.
