Itinerary description
Jörundarfell is the highest peak of Vatnsdalsfjall in Austur-Húnavatnssýsla and is 1038 m high. Vatnsdals-fjall is a nearly 30 km long mountain range that runs from north to south and is probably best known for having fallen from the landslide that formed Vatnsdalshólar, which is one of three natural phenomena in Iceland that are said to be innumerable. From Jörundarfell there is a very good view in all directions in good visibility; in the south, you can see glaciers and in Kerlingarfjöll, in the west Strandafjöllin, in the north Skagi and Húnaflói and in the east you face the mountains of Skagafjörður and even Kerling in Eyjafjörður.
The route is quite demanding for hiking and it is important to be well equipped and have a packed lunch.
