Itinerary description
This section of wall is a mixture of Wild and Renovated wall; but mostly the latter. I headed west which quickly turned Wild. However, you don't have to go very far before the wall becomes closed. Signs saying "military zone" and "no admittance" are not encouraging. But the brieze block wall blocking any passage along the wall towards Gubikou is the most off putting. There were no guards to check that I didn't climb the blockage and there was some barded wire hanging about which also added to the problem. So I then headed east as far as I could. My plan was to try and walk along the wall until I got to the river by Gubei water town and then walk back along the riverside to my hotel. Sadly when I reached the end of Jinshanling Great Wall there were a couple of guards, a sign and a camera all telling me that I was not allowed to continue along the wall. Instead I had to exit by the East gate by walking North to the road (the opposite direction to where I wanted to go). Most disappointing. I had noticed on Wikiloc that people in the past have walked the full length of the wall from Gubikou to Simitai. Sadly this is no longer possible. The wall has been divided up into distinct sections which is a real shame.
