Trip from the parking lot in Vilje along the route to Veliki Risnjak (1528 m above sea level)
On the way, crossing the trail crossing and the Medvjeda Vrata pass. Next, walk just below the Juzni Mali Risnjak summit (1448 m above sea level), reach the shelter under Veliki Risnjak (1418 m above sea level) and exit to the summit.
The route from there is quite simple, easy, well marked. The exit from the shelter is very nice, attractive - rocks, ropes for belaying, and expositions for beautiful panoramas.
The views from the top of Veliki Risnjak are impressive, the beautiful chains of the surrounding mountains, the forests of the Risnjak reserve - great! There are also beautiful panoramas under the mountain peak. It's worth every effort to come here.
The hostel was closed on that day.
The return follows another trail - parallel to the starting, traversing slope of the mountains on the other side. Access to the intersection of this trail with a forest road which is a track from the Roman times - even a wide road, flat, but not marked with any sign. This road reaches the Medvjeda Vrata pass (the point of intersection of the exit trail) and here it is sharply left to the next variant of the parallel trail to the exit trail. VERY steep descent, quite long, very narrow, not well-worn trail dotted with loose stones and rocks - quite uncomfortable and steep descent. The next part is a descent between geological glacial craters - impressive views of "holes and craters" like a bomb, very large and deep, with very steep shores. Continue through the forest to the forest road that leads to the starting point in the Velo Vilje parking lot.
The route is very attractive with views and interesting ascents and descents. I do not recommend recreating this route in the opposite direction because it will be much more cumbersome - nevertheless, regardless of the variant, it is worth going here and going to Veliki Risnjak - I recommend it!
