Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe, behind Finland and Sweden, with amazing lakes and landscapes that will delight any hiker. This summer we have done several excursions in the modality known as self-guided hiking that can be hired from different agencies. This means that the walks are done independently, but that the agency provides you with transfers, maps, tracks and accommodation.
In Slovenia there are two sections of the Alps: the so-called Julian Alps and the Carinthian and Slovenian Alps; within the latter there is the ridge named Kamnik-Savinja where we find the idyllic village of Jezersko, from where we make the first three departures. The other three take us to different valleys and mountains of the Julian Alps, named after Julius Caesar who established Roman rule a few years ago.
In Slovenia we walked through mountain ranges, meadows and valleys, with impressive views at every step. Numerous excursions of many levels and degrees of difficulty can be done there. The ones we have presented in this review could be described as hiking, since there are no technical steps in any of them and if there are, they are well equipped. I'm sure if you go there you won't be disappointed.
This route leads to one of the oldest shelters in Slovenia, built by the Czechs about 113 years ago. We leave Jezersko and after crossing some pastures the path climbs straight through steep groves. As we progress, we find many equipped steps and wooden stairs along the cliff. We arrive at the refuge from where we can see a rocky ridge from which Mount Grintovec protrudes; with its 2558 m. it is the highest of the Kamnik-Savinja range. On the way back to Jezersko we pass near an old refuge (Stularjeva Planina) and the Planšarsko jezero lake, a place of great beauty at the foot of great mountains
