English version:
Wanaka and Queenstown are the ideal places to take a jet boat ride. These are small speedboats that suck up water and use it as propulsion to move the boat. The significant advantage of this is that even rivers with a depth of ten centimeters are navigable with these boats. In this boat trip, locations from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are visited and discussed, but there is also a short walk to fill up this half-day excursion.
Unfortunately, this walk of barely two kilometers feels like a filler. The group stops at a meadow, and then it proceeds to a solitary tree. I have long since forgotten what kind of tree it is, but these trees were once abundant here before human settlement. However, they have all been cut down to make way for meadows and other trees. Those other trees are called beech trees, pine trees that, contrary to what I thought, naturally grow here. This small pine forest is also adorned with a small waterfall and stream, giving it the allure of a forest in the Ardennes. Nice to see, but not exactly the reason why I traveled to New Zealand. Later, I learn that this forest was also used for a Lord of the Rings scene, but the jet boat driver-cum-guide remains silent on this matter.
I am somewhat relieved when we return because the walking pace is excruciatingly slow, and the guide can only say so much about the surroundings without repeating himself. In my opinion, this walk could be removed from the program and replaced with an additional hour of jet boat touring.

Wanaka and Queenstown are the ideal places to sail with a jet boat. These are small speed boats that suck in water and use this water as propulsion to move the boat. The big advantage of this is that even rivers with a depth of ten centimeters of water can be navigable with these boats. In this boat trip, locations from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are also visited and discussed, but there is also a small walk to complete this half-day trip.
Because unfortunately this walk of less than two kilometers feels like filler. We stop at a meadow and then go to a lonely tree. I have long forgotten what kind of tree this is, but these trees were very numerous here before people settled, but have now all been cut down to make way for meadows and other trees. Those other trees are so-called beech trees, coniferous trees that - contrary to what I thought - grow naturally here. This small coniferous forest also has a small waterfall and stream, giving it the allure of an Ardennes forest. Nice to see, but not exactly the reason why I'm going to New Zealand. Afterwards I learn that this forest was also used for a Lord of the Rings recording, but the driver of the jet boat and guide is completely silent about this.
So I'm somewhat happy when we go back, because the walking pace is terribly slow and the guide can only tell so much about the area without repeating ourselves. Then the jet boat is a more exciting part of this half day. As far as I'm concerned, this walk can be removed from the program and replaced by a one-hour jet boat tour.
