Itinerary description
Janshai Valley also has a lake known as Masteej/Pearl lake but due to it's very high altitude, it was not possible to access it in May.
Kooh lake also called a colour changing lake which is located in anakar kalam valley. The Trek to lake starts from Anakar village For which we cam back from Janshai Meadows to the spot which were started the trek on first day. For most of it's part, it is a jeep track till Maidan banda, except for the areas where it has been swept away by landsliding or is covered by glacier. From maidan Banda, Lake is a two hours hike half of which is scenic meadow and final hour is a hike through boulders.
At many places you would trek through sea of boulders and rocks and might twist your ankle. I have never seen a trek with so many picturesque and fairy tale spots. Since you trek with the river originating from the Lake, you always have access to water. Not to mention countless springs and water crossings on the way.
We did the trek on third week of May and whole valley was blossomed with pink, red, while, yellow and purple flowers. It was magical.
Lake itself was almost frozen with glaciers from the mountains still depositing snow on it. We went and took a bath in the cold water of the lake. it was very rewarding.
Trek back was extremely fun as we completed it almost non-stop.
Since all three days were sunny, we got to capture some stunning pictures and make amazing videos.
Check out my instagram for pictures and videos of the trek.
Waypoints
Start of the trek - Blue Water Point
Trek starts at Blue water point where there is a restaurant
Panoramic view
I was told that our destination was next to the two trees in the view. and behind that was the climb to the lake. I wanted to go to the lake the same day. Couple of gentlemen actually went there, but came back very late. it was a good decision that I did not go the same night.
A shephered's hut
This was a well made hut near the foot of the mountain just before the boulders started. There were couple of caves there where shepherded seek shelter.
Kooh/Andarab Lake
Lake was frozen. I did see a post by someone on facebook dated May 16, 2023 which showed it to be frozen. And honestly, I wanted it to be frozen. I have never seen a frozen lake. Main lake's color was greenish whereas a pool next to it had more serene and grayish blue water and offered more beautiful scenery. Lake has several rocks which are notorious for being picturesque.
The big tree break
We stopped there for sometime on our way back. Somehow I paused my tracker and later when I finished the trail, it ended the trail near this tree making it a one sided trail instead of a loop.
