Itinerary description

Started at the James AT River Foot Bridge and headed South on the AT. The first few miles are flat following the James River and Matts Creek. After you get to Matts Creek shelter its a good climb up to the top. At Five Points I took the Piney Ridge Trail down to Hunt Club Road (Dirt Road ~1 mile long) and then left on Route 501 (less than 1 mile) until I reached the old removed 501 road less than 1 mile (pedestrian access only). From here you can take the Matt's Creek Trail which you passed about 1.5 miles from the beginning or find your way down to the rail road tracks. You can see where I started on the Matt's Creek Trail and then turned around and went down to the rail road tracks which take you right back to the footbridge in less than 1/2 mile. If you take the Matt's creek trail it'll add about 2 miles to the journey.
