Islandia: Hvannagil Canyon via Raftagil Canyon

Bonita ruta circular disfrutando de paisajes espectaculares. Esta versión por el cañon de Raftagil es mas corta que la ruta original que sale desde Stafafell. Para llegar al inicio de la ruta salimos de la Ring Road siguiendo la indicación Graenahlið. Hay que seguir un par de km por este camino de grava, se puede ir bien con un coche normal. Aparcamos a la altura de una casa de campo con el nombre Fellshamar (ver fotos). Desde allí andamos unos 200m por la carretera hasta ver a la derecha el barranco de Raftagil. Nos metemos por el barranco siguiendo una estrecha senda por la izquierda del barranco. Siempre seguimos el curso del riachuelo, de vez en cuando hay que vadear el río. El cañon es muy bonito con bastante vegetación. Al llegar a una cascada salimos del barranco subiendo hasta cruzarnos con el sendero que llega desde Stafafell. A partir de allí la senda está marcada con palos de madera o montículos de piedras. Al llegar al Cañon de Hvannagil podemos disfrutar desde el mirador las vistas impresionantes de este cañon colorido. Iniciamos la bajada al cañon. Allí seguimos el curso del rio que tendremos que vadear en un par de ocasiones, en nuestro caso en verano hubo poco caudal y se pudo hacer sin problemas. A la salida del cañon llegamos a la pista de grava que nos lleva de vuelta al sitio donde hemos dejado el coche, pasando por una zona con muchas casitas de veraneo.

Nice circular route enjoying spectacular landscapes. This version through the Raftagil canyon is shorter than the original route that leaves from Stafafell. To get to the starting point of the route, leave the Ring Road following the indication Graenahlid. You have to drive a couple of km along this gravel road, we went in a normal car. Park next to a country house with the name Fellshamar (see photos). From there walk about 200m along the road until you see on the right the Raftagil ravine. Enter the ravine following a narrow path on the left of the ravine. Follow the course of the creek, from time to time you have to wade the small river. The canyon is beautiful with much vegetation. Arriving at a waterfall leave the ravine, climbing up untill you reach the path that comes from Stafafell. From there the path is marked with wooden sticks or stone mounds. Upon reaching the Hvannagil Canyon you can enjoy from the viewpoint the breathtaking views of this colorful canyon. Begin the descent to the canyon. There you follow the course of the river that you will have to wade on a couple of occasions, in our case in summer there was little flow and it could be done without problems. At the exit of the canyon you arrive at the gravel road that takes you back to the place where you left the car, passing through an area with many summer houses.
