Itinerary description

Irshalgad fort trek | Monsoon trek to Irshalgad 2018
1st July 2018

This is the first trek in this monsoon season. Irshalgad is a pinnacle located on a plateau that towers over the Chowk town on Panvel - Karjat Nation Highway, NH4.

Karja is the base village for Irshalgad trek. It is 2.5 km away from the Chow town between Panvel and Karjat. Chowk is 19 kilometres from Panvel and 12 kilometres from Karjat on National Highway NH4, and buses are frequently available between Panvel and Karjat.

From Chowk, an easy 30 minute walk take you to Karja village, and road is paved till this village. As you head towards Karja, you can spot Morbe Dam towards your right side. On the northern edge of the village, a water plant and an overhead water tank are clearly visible. The paved road ends at this water tank which makes it our carpark and the starting point for this trek.

From the water plant follow a wide, well used mud trail that heads due north. The first 500 metres of this trail are flat and this brings you to the base of a ridge. The ascent from the base to the top of the ridge the path zigzags across the south face of the ridge. From Karja vaillage, 1 hour trekking will takes you to big plateau where Irshalvadi village is located.

Along the way to top of Irshalgad, you will be fascinated with the beautiful view of the Morbe Dam. This is constructed over Dhavari river and it serves as the main water source of Navi Mumbai.

Irshalvadi villagers also arranges food and accomodation on demand. Contact no : 779 803 13 19

From Irshalvadi village, follow the trail on your left. A 300 meters walking over the plateau will take you to a small temple. You need to cross a small water stream on the trail. After temple, you need to climb one more ridge to reach another small plateau where Irshalgad pinnacle is located. This small section where you climb on to Irshalgad plateau is a little steep and requires a bit of care. From the plateau base it is easy walking to the pinnacle base.

The Irshalgad pinnacle can be ascended easily upto the middle, and further climbing requires technical supports. There is big nedhe on the pinnacle from where you can enjoy 360 degree view of near by valley and mountains. It is not recommended to climb the pinnacle in the monsoon, especially if it is wet.

Irshalgad fort is known as sister fort to Prabhalgad . You can see the Prabhalgad and Matheran from the top plateau. You will get more clear view of these two ghats from the north side of the pinnacle.
