Itinerary description
This trail is the equivalent of tour 2 of the tourist guide Eastbelgium Genusstouren. The distance is more than 14 kilometers, and we consider 4 hours walking time the minimum if you want to enjoy the hike.
The trail starts in Xhoffraix at the church, which is away from the main hikers parking in Xhoffraix. The trail has a total ascent and descent of close to 500 meter, as Xhoffraix is on a high plateau, and you will be descending twice into the steep and narrow Warche Valley.
Following the first descent, the castle Reinhardstein will appear high above the valley. You pass a cascade and climb a steep and barely visible path up the opposite ridge, from which you have excellent eye-level views of Reinhardstein. At the second crossing of the Warche, you pass the camping site and bar Au Moulin, the only stop along the way to get refreshments.
The last stretch back to Xhoffraix leads past an impressive quarry of the famous shale, from which many houses in the Ardennes and the Eifel made their roof slates. A last steep ascent takes you back to Xhoffraix.
Much of the Warche valley is secluded and wild, though there has been controlled timber activity.

Is that a single tree with lots of little trees on top or lots of little trees that have merged together? Looks awesome! https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/into-the-warche-valley-10667791/photo-6440818
My estimate is 3 trees, possibly 4. These things happen when a tree was meant to be part of a hedge, and pruned during the first years. Eventually, some stronger twigs developed into trees, but from the same root. https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/into-the-warche-valley-10667791/photo-6440818

Did this route at the end of March 2016. The weather was kind of rainy and there were lots of streams to jump over and a couple to walk through, so waterproof shoes are almost a must.
In one or two places it would've been easy to take the wrong turn due to the placement of the signs, but otherwise it's easy enough to follow and well marked.
The scenery is very nice, different types of forest, a good bit of the route goes around a river and it looks pretty nice. There's a tiny waterfall (I didn't find that really impressive, but it's there). There a couple of places with some pretty steep descent.
Overall, it's a nice bit of a walk through hills and forests. There were plenty of old people and children on the trail. It's not particularly challenging, other than the length of it.
