Itinerary description
Paithalmala Hike. Kannur, Kerala.
Copied from Online sources.
Opens at 9am. Well monitored and maintained. Carrying any single use Plastic not allowed. Bags are checked.
Entry fee 30 Rs. Hike is about 2.5 kms long minimum and can be extended like we did.
Short hike takes around 30-45 minutes one way.
Trekkers paradise, the place looks like heaven on Earth with low clouds on perfect days.
But beware it's a trekkers place if you can't walk for like 3-5 hours, (in order to reach the topmost point) please don't come.
Don't bring plastic, bring plenty of water in reusable bottles, being food in containers, and salt for getting rid of leeches.
Paithalmala is a very good hill station with few exploitation from the outside world.
This is a place for those who loves nature. There were not much transportation available when i visited here,
There are mainly two ways to reach here.
One is the Alakode Kappimala road and the other is Kudiyanmala road.
If we are reaching at the ticket center through Alakode road, we have to cover about two or three km to reach the top, and the view point is near to them.
But in Kudiyanmala road, only one or two km to reach the top. But we have to move a very long distance to reach the view point through the top.
The view from there is awesome. Try to visit in the rainy season or before the summer to enjoy the real beauty of the heights. Try to bring water with you and do not throw plastic on the hills.
Go in the early morning if possible. There is a small stream near the view point with fresh water. Try not to pollute it. We can find water in it excluding the heavy summer.
The best thing i enjoyed here was walking through the clouds... if you reach here before noon you can surely enjoy the same.
Don't forget to carry enough water and food from the station since you wont get anything in the hill other than natures love and pampering of the sweet wind.
There is an observatory tower made by the department of tourism at the hilltop which can be reached after a 45 min walk from the Paithal valley.
Trekking starts through the dense forest followed by the plain grass land on the hill top.
View of the valley from the observatory tower is breathtaking and the observer's eyes can hover over more than half the area of Kannur district.
Most of the visitors end their trek having time spent around the tower, but much of the excitement of the Paithalmala is located elsewhere.
The best part of the trek is the walk from the observatory tower to the thick forest where trail from Kappimala ends.
One can move on top of the hills enjoying the mesmerizing scenery of the Coorg forest on right and Paithal valley on the left.
The grassland looks stunning here and arguably is the best scene of the trek.
The best time to start the trek is early morning, after the breakfast from the valley and finishing by evening.
Lunch, water and snacks need to be carried. You are not allowed to carry Plastic into the forest. (copied)
