Conquering the Wilderness: Trekking Netravathi Peak near Kudremukh in Karnataka, India

Nestled in the heart of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, the Netravathi Peak is a hidden gem for trekking enthusiasts. This adventurous journey is not just about the destination but the exhilarating path you'll tread. Let's dive into the details of this thrilling trek, including elevations, distances, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the region.

From the summit you can see Kudremukha peak, Gadai kallu, Jamalabad fort mountain and many other areas.

Elevation and Distance:

Netravathi Peak, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, Kudremukh, stands at an elevation of 1,461 meters (4,793 feet) above sea level. The trek to the peak is approximately 9 kilometers, (if you use the jeep for the offroad ) covering a variety of terrains that provide trekkers with a moderate to challenging experience.

You can come come to Kudremukha / Samse area on the previous day of your trek, and spend the night at one of the home stays. There are a number of home stays in the area, we stayed at Kudremukh Adventure homestay. The owner Mr. Sanjith ( +919481386996 ) was very friendly and he took al the responsibilities to ensure a smooth and convenient trekking experience.
They will also arrange vegetarian dinner, breakfast and lunch (to be carried when you hike) during your stay.
They charged INR 1200 per person for the service.

Please note that only 300 trekkers are allowed on the mountain every day including weekends.
Previously there was a manual ticket system, recently authorities have started online ticket booking system.
https://kudremukhanationalpark.in
Here you can book the ticket and you get a code, please reserve your ticket once your plan is confirmed.

The passes are distributed between 6am -11am at the forest office near the start of the trek. The ticket costs INR 500 per person.

It is mandatory by rules to have a dedicated local guide for 1 to 10 trekkers. The guide's charges are INR 1000 per max 10 trekkers. You will find the guide at the forest office or the homestays will arrange for you.

To reach the trailhead, it is about 6 kms of offroad in the midst of the mountains and estates and you will need 4X4 jeep ride. The jeep will cost INR 2,000 per trip (to and fro) and maximum of 8 trekkers can share the ride.

If you are a small group of 3 or less trekkers, you can hire an autorickshaw for about INR 600 (to and fro) from Samse village.
But be prepared to walk about 1.5 kms one way more than the jeep ride.

My trail was recorded from the auto rickshaw drop off point as we used the auto.
