Itinerary description
Hike can be moderate, but snow made it harder (we should’ve used crampons actually, but managed without them).
Route recorded from Centro Vacacional IMSS until the summit.
Hike starts through the forest (which is indeed beautiful!), including some steep parts. Nothing very technical though.
Then the “sand” part starts (arenal). Steep, but again not very technical.
The rocky part to reach the summit is a bit more technical. It was full of snow when I’ve been there (so even at the entrance they said it was not allowed to go to summit without helmet and crampons). Saw a lot of people with crampons, a lot without.
Route is very clear. Also, on weekends there are a lot of other hikers as well. If you’re an experienced mountaineer, no guide is needed.
Recommended to go start as early as possible (I started at 8ish).
You can reach IMSS from Puebla by public transport, but I am not quite sure how (at least two buses).
