Itinerary description
From Ibarra there are frequent buses to the community of La Esperanza. I decided to go up and down walking from the main square and bridge there, which makes this trek quite demanding, especially because the first kilometres from La Esperanza are streets paved with stones. The street finishes not far from a water storage centre, then the real climb starts. Then you reach a point which I believe is the first summit of the crater where some people stop, as from there the path through the top half-ring of the volcano crater has some quite exposed scrambling.
In any case, reaching this point is already absolutely rewarding. If you continue, after some more scrambling and some other summits, you will reach the main summit of the crater. If you feel confident to do the scrambling to the top, this volcano is great fun.
The path back is the same as I went up. The last kilometres are streets paved in stones descending, which makes me think that it could have been definitely worthy to arrange a pick up (both ascent and descent are over 2.200 metres)
