Itinerary description
Maybe one of the most beautiful and varied tours that you can make in a day. Follow the sign pole towards “Lake and Plateau”, from the road opposite the cabins at the Igaliku Country Hotel. The gravel road leads out of the village and after passing the area with the solar panels you follow a track turning right (marked with red spots). It soon becomes a sheep track that runs along the fjord for about two km, until it reaches the stream coming from the lake. Walk along the stream all the way to the lake and continue up the path through the valley at the end of the lake. It ascends gradually about 200 m, where you turn right, and follow the red dots over the plateau, on rocks and between small ponds, until you reach the vantage point, where you have a sublime view of the ice fjord, the glacier and the stranded ice bergs on the underwater moraine. On the way back, you can follow the sign pointing more east towards Igaliku. It goes through a rough and barren landscape, where rocks are weathered into small pieces of pebbles, and almost no vegetation can find a solid ground to grow on. When you meet the gravel road, you can follow it down to the lake, and continue back to Igaliku. Walking time in total 4-5 hours (without breaks).
