Unionskirche
Downtown, you'll pass the rather inconspicuous Lutheran Union Church. You should definitely take a look inside. The interior ceiling and wall paintings are breathtaking. . This church is s richly decorated with marble columns and magnificent wall paneling that you would never think of it as a Protestant church. Many creative minds of the Rubens school have immortalized themselves here.
Killingerhaus
One of Idstein's most striking half-timbered houses is the "Killingerhaus" built in 1615 with its turquoise green paint, the beautifully designed oriel and the detailed carvings. Nowadays the tourist information is located here, and you should definitely go in and ask for the key to the "Hexenturm" (Witches' Tower). The Killingerhaus also houses the town museum. Here you can learn about the 900-year history of the city through numerous exhibits.
König-Adolf-Platz
The so-called Leaning House, built in the 18th century, is located to the left of the town hall.
Kanzleitor
The heart of Idstein is the König-Adolf-Platz, which is surrounded by beautifully restored half-timbered houses, most of which date back to around 1600. Next to the Leaning House is the Red Town Hall and the 12th century fortress. The "Kanzleitor" represents the transition between the old town and the fortress and castle.
Hexenturm
The 42-meter-high witches' tower (Hexenturm) was never a prison for supposed witches owes its nickname to a memorial plaque attached to a rock wall. It commemorates the women executed as witches.
Idstein Castle
The Renaissance-style Idstein Castle was built between 1614 and 1634 by the Idstein architects Jost and Heinrich Heer (Höer). Parts of the former outer castle were used as a basis for the new building. The castle stands on a raised plateau, which was separated from the main or upper castle by a moat (with a castle bridge). Since 1946 it has been housing a secondary school.
Schlossgarten
Directly across from the Witch's Tower is the castle garden with its many rose bushes.
Höerhof
One of the most famous half-timbered houses is the Höerhof situated in the Obergasse. In the past, the Höerhof has served many different purposes, from a hunting lodge to a forester's lodge or the home of the painter Ernst Toepfer. Today it houses a first-class restaurant and four-star hotel with a beautiful courtyard.
Limesturm
The Roman Tower Idstein-Dasbach is a reconstruction of the Roman Limes watchtower Wp 3/26 and was completed in 2002.
