Itinerary description
Starting the day with crossing Tungná - which takes quite some time as the crossing takes place where the river is divided into lots of lanes, some deeper than others. The hiking is easy, solid ground to walk on. An old sheep-path is easily seen when you get close to Fögrufjöll. Rivers shown north of Langisjór are non-existing. On the other hand, the river flowing out of Langisjór calls for boots-off crossing. Horizontal rain prevented photographing . . .

Priceless information. How long did the crossing take? Is the crossing point exact?
hi - on the photo, you see my companions "landing" on the east side of the river. In the background you can see Iceland Glaciological Society´s huts in "Jökulheimar" by Tungná river. The best starting point for the crossing is set when you come to the river. I recommend that you try to figure out how/where to cross, before you get to the huts, while still on higher grounds, overlooking the river. As the river (usually!) spreads much out here, the crossing, in terms of depth of water/strength of the current, is quite easy (up to ca. knee deep) but you most likely need to zig-zag between the lanes to take advantage of slow current/shallow water. Estimated time for the crossing, from the time you wade into the first lane, until you stand on the other side might be around 25 minutes. Meaning; expect numb toes after the crossing :-) Good luck.
I think you've just provided the best explanation available on the web. Thank you!
Another question: can you describe the crossing near Langisjor that called for boots off crossing? How difficult was it?

Ibornov2: if you are referring to the river which flows out of Langisjór, then the easiest way to describe the crossing this way: Around knee deep, but big stones on the bottom make you walk carefully. The current is not strong. Verdict: Easy
Hei Brynjólfur,
Do you have any current information (for the summer) about where an access of Tungaarjökull (W-side Sidujökull) is possible? I think about P 64°16'18.31"N / 18° 8'41.39"W, not far from this track.
like my other question, it's about a connection Langisjor - Graenalon - Skaftafjell.
We (my wife and me) are very experienced (glacier) trekkers.
It would be great if you could help - Thanks a lot!
