Itinerary description
A variation to the old Laki-Skaftafell route. Easy to get to the starting point - take the bus, for example Stræto, ask the driver to let you off by Djupa. Instead of walking down to Nupstadaskogar, one can skip that part and just continue east to the Skeidararjokull glacier and make this a 5 - 6 day tour. Meaning that one does not need to carry so much food. Crampons and all necessary cravasse - rescue-stuff is a must for crossing the glacier as well as to let the good people at safetravel.is know about your plans. As the hike starts east of Djupa river, there are no "serious" rivers to cross but still, it is better to have river crossing shoes. And - there is no need to carry water with you - except through the mountains between Skeidararjokull and Skaftafell. But something decent to wear in the hot (all natural) pool is needed.
