Itinerary description
Ruta: Lonsoraefi (47 m) – Hvannagil Canyon (72 m) – Hvannagil Canyon exit (100 m) – Hvannagil Canyon viewpoint (168 m) – Selgil (210 m) – Raftagil (169 m) – Selfgil N zone (130 m) – Gildrufjall W zone (147 m) – Ring Road 1 (35 m) – Lonsoraefi Route (15 m) – Fellshamar (30 m) – Lonsoraefi (47 m)
Accés: Stafafell, al sud-est d’Islàndia, es troba a uns 70 km a l’oest de Djípivogur i a 30 km a l’est d’Höfn
Stafafell, in the South East Iceland, about 70 km west of Djípivogur amd 30 km east of Höfn

Trail description: We have started the route in the area known as Lónsörafi, just where the canyon of Hannavegil joins the Jökulsa and Lóni river. We head towards the ridge and go over the course of the river, which we will cross a few times. This time we have not had to barefoot, but it usually happens to have to to ford by wading on foo. Between riolite walls, with all the colors of the rainbow we walk about a kilometer and half. When you see a path that climbs to the left side of the canyon, we take it to gain altitude and position ourselves above, from where we enjoy excellent views. We get to a viewpoint with panoramic views from the canyon and some peaks of the NO part of the Vatnajökull glacier. We are on top of a plateau where we begin to walk towards ESE until we find the Selgil course, where we return the stream to a small but beautiful waterfall. Now we follow the course of the stream that joins its neighbor Raftagil. There are some wooden sticks path, follows parallel to the stream until this one turns to S. Just at this point, we follow the path marked with wooden stiks and we go direction to the small hill of Selfgil, which borders on its slope N. Continuing walking through this immense meadow in the direction of Gildrufjall that borders on the W side. We approach near the river Jökulsá and Lóni, which is 70 meters below, and by sheep we go down to find the Ring Road 1. From this point We will return to find the car, which is 5 kilometers up, going back to the Lónsöraefi Route, a trail that goes into the mountain on the left bank of the river
