Itinerary description
Trail is easy for the most part, with some moderate to difficult sections. If you follow the trail counter-clockwise to Scenic 7 Byway Trailhead from the creek crossing, you will have an easy climb to the summit and a steep, switchback filled downhill to the parking lot. Downhill is hard on the knees and toes, but it's not that bad. Met up with some hikers that tried the steep uphill first and they turned around about half way through. All depends on your conditioning and preference. We're from south Louisiana and it wasn't too difficult.
Most sections of the trail were easy to follow, but several sections were not well marked and trail is not heavily used so you had to pay attention. As more leaves fall it will be even more hard to follow. I didn't think about hunting season until I saw several hikers wearing hunter orange. NF postings warning about hunting season were last year's. Always a good thing to check local hunting times and dress appropriately.
Trail followed an old road bed that eventually led to a small impoundment. Vista was pretty neat. Nice hike.
