Itinerary description
Huanghuacheng great wall hike :
fabulous hike but very steep. It is more strenuous than Jiankou (which has a unique wonderful scenery). Start at the dam, pay 3 RMB to access wall. At the beginning, the wall is renewed.
At 2.6km (see map), the wall start to be old and some down climbing is required if you wish to stay on the wall (otherwise side trail available)
More climbing (be cautious) on the next portion which is very steep. It goes up until wall disappears but we continued to top of the mountain.
We went back on the wall and decided to go back to parking using a small road but got stopped by a barrier and were asked to pay 50RMB (6€) to continue. No way to accept that. So we went back on wall, found shortcut to avoid strenious climb to 565m and finally back to parking.
Wheather was light rain but view was fantastic and legs are still remembering the trek.
for a future time, we may plan to start west at the dam and reach another lake which seems to be very nice (look for Lakeview great wall on internet)
